Eureka! We found this beauty right here in our backyard at the Hudson Museum at the University of Maine in Orono! This painting was one of the many portraits that our founder painted during the city of Bangor’s heydays.
During the Bangor Art Society’s February meeting last month, some of us who braved the storm, (all three of us), were treated to an exquisite tour of the University of Maine’s collection of Native American art by Sky Heller, Registrar. We saw this painting and many examples of Penobscot Nation baskets, canoes, carvings and historic pieces. We deeply appreciate Ms. Heller for her explanation and expertise. I urge all Bangor Art Society affiliates to take the time and absorb the local artwork of the talented peoples around us and visit this museum.
